The Ringwood Centenary Lantern stands as a permanent memorial honouring the brave individuals from our community who lost their lives while serving in the Armed Forces during World War I and World War II. This poignant tribute is dedicated to preserving the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
Since August 2014, a lantern at Ringwood Gateway has been lit on the anniversaries of each fallen service member and on significant national days, serving as a beacon of remembrance and respect. This year marks the 10th anniversary of this solemn tradition, a decade of honouring our heroes with the light of remembrance.
Commissioned by the residents of Ringwood and supported by the Town Council, the current lantern was dedicated on 3 November 2018, marking the centenary of the Armistice of 1918 - the end of World War I. This dedication reflects our community's commitment to honouring the sacrifices of those who served.
Ringwood Meeting House maintains a complete record of all individuals remembered by the lantern and on the Ringwood War Memorial, ensuring that their legacies live on in the hearts of future generations.
We encourage everyone to join us in remembrance and reflection this Remembrance Sunday, as we gather to pay respect to those who gave so much for our freedom.
