New Forest District Council has upgraded the footpaths at Poulner Lakes as part of their Green Way initiative to encourage local recreation.
Localised drainage improvements are currently taking place to ensure that all of the footpaths remain accessible during the winter and wetter times of the year. These works comprise construction of stone-filled drains and ditches which feed into a shallow pond. The pond will temporarily store collected surface water until it naturally soaks away and/or evaporates. It is expected that the pond will naturalise over time and provide additional habitat for wildlife. Further works are planned to shape the pond into a natural form. All planting that has been unavoidably damaged by these works will be replaced by the Contractor.
